Root Canal Therapy
“Getting to the root of the problem!”
At Amir Sanjabi, DDS, we pride ourselves on performing root canal treatments in the most painless way possible.
The root canal treatment is used to repair a tooth that has become severely infected or damaged. During the procedure, the nerve, pulp, and blood vessels are removed from inside the tooth chamber, and the cavity is sealed.
When Do You Need a Root Canal Treatment?
A root canal or endodontic treatment is performed to save a tooth when the pulp inside has become incredibly infected or damaged. The causes can be a severe dental trauma or a deep-seated or prolonged infection. Also, tooth pulp may become infected even though there may be no external sign of injury, like cracks or chips. If inflammation is left untreated, it can result in significant pain, and the cavity may be filled up with pus.
What Happens During a Root Canal?
At Amir Sanjabi, DDS, we will first take a radiographic x-ray of the affected tooth to understand the shape of the root and determine how much the infection has spread. We will then administer a local anesthetic that will numb the area. Once the tooth is numb, we will place a dental dam over the area to isolate the tooth and keep it free of saliva.
We will then perform the following procedures:
Root canal treatments have a 95% success rate and most patients’ treatments last a lifetime. Additionally, since the crown on the tooth is the same color as your natural tooth, no one can detect you have had a root canal operation.
