“Helping you smile with confidence!”

If your teeth are chipped, discolored or have gaps between them, we at Amir Sanjabi, DDS can improve your smile with the help of veneers.

Veneers are very thin wafer-like shells of porcelain that are designed to cover the front surface of your tooth to recreate a natural look. They also provide additional strength and support to your enamel and offer resistance to stains. Veneers are often preferred by patients because they are less invasive than crowns or braces.

What Dental Issues Do Veneers Fix?

Dental veneers are used to improve the appearance of:
•  Discolored teeth: Yellowing or grayish teeth can negatively impact your smile. Your teeth can end up discolored because of tetracycline drugs, smoking habits, excessive fluoride, resin fillings or other causes. Veneers can be used as an alternative to teeth whitening to cover up these discolored teeth.
•  Worn down teeth: Your teeth can become worn down due to age, hard brushing or if you have a habit of clenching your jaw. Veneers can help.
•  Chipped teeth: A facial trauma or biting into very hard food can result in a fractured or chipped tooth. A veneer can cover up any visible damage and fix it.
•  Irregular Shaped Teeth: Irregularly-shaped teeth may be uneven or have pits or bulges in them, which can affect your smile. Placing veneers over them can make your smile more aesthetically pleasing.
•  Gaps Between Teeth: Gaps between teeth do not just look odd; they also trap food, leading to increased risk of decay. A veneer can bridge the gap between teeth and reduce chances of infection and gum disease.

Process of Getting a Dental Veneer

Man at consultation for dental veneers comparing color and fit with help from Amir Sanjabi, DDSAt Amir Sanjabi, DDS, getting a veneer placed can take about three trips in total: one trip for consultation, a second one for preparation and a third one for the placement of the veneer.

Getting a veneer does not usually require local anesthesia; however, we may use it if you are feeling anxious about the process. Amir Sanjabi, DDS will first clean the tooth and find out its exact shade. He will then scrape off about half a millimeter of enamel from your tooth, to make room for the veneer.

Next, an impression of your tooth will be made and sent to a dental lab for the fabrication process. This may take 2 to 4 weeks. While you wait for the permanent veneer to arrive, we will place a temporary veneer on your tooth.

After your permanent veneer arrives, you will be called to the clinic and your temporary veneer removed. Your tooth will be cleaned and edged to allow for a strong bonding process. A cementing material is put on the veneer, and the prosthetic is placed on the teeth. We may use a curing light to harden the cement to your tooth. Once that is done, we will remove the excess adhesive material and polish the veneer.

What to Expect After Getting Fit With A Veneer

Unlike some invasive dental procedures, veneers do not require any recovery time. You can chew and eat as you normally would in just a few hours after the procedure.

You may experience some rough spots on the veneer, which may exist due to the use of excess cement. These spots will soon wear off after a few days of eating and brushing.

Don’t chew on your nails or pen, or open packets with your mouth as it can cause veneers to break off. Also, wear a mouth guard when playing sports.

Porcelain veneers can last as long as 15 years. With good oral hygiene and dietary habits, you can make veneers last for a long time.

Veneers are irreversible, so you need to give it some deep thought before getting them. It is important to have the correct information about veneers before you decide to get them.
