All-on-4® Treatment Concept
“Because you need a strong and unfailing smile!”
At Amir Sanjabi, DDS, we offer you with All-on-4 Treatment Concept, a modern alternative to dentures.
What is All-on-4 Treatment?
The term All-on-4 comes from all of a patient’s teeth being supported by four titanium implants. The four implants support an unmovable anchor for the prosthesis with a full set of teeth on the lower and/or upper jaw. This procedure is performed on edentulous patients or people with badly damaged, broken, or compromised teeth.
How Is All-on-4 Treatment Performed?
In your first appointment, Amir Sanjabi, DDS will take complete digital x-rays of your mouth to determine where to place the implants.
In your next visit, we will start the surgical process. We will administer general anesthesia. Once all of your teeth have been removed, we will start the implanting process.
First, we will make an incision in your gumline so that we can gain access to the bone. Then, we will use a special drill to clear out four spots in your bone, which will accommodate the implants.
To attach the dentures, we will then place four titanium screw-like implant posts into the holes in your jawbone. These posts will be tilted at an angle, and the spots in the jawbone will serve as strong, stable points to hold the denture in place. These implants are also longer than other dental implants and do not require a bone graft.
Once the implants are installed, we will fix the bridge containing a full arch of prosthetic teeth.
Since this is a surgical treatment and requires not just superficial healing but bone healing as well, it will take you a few days to recover. Some patients are back on their feet the same day; generally, though most patients are up and about in 3 to 4 days.
You will experience some pain in the first few days after the surgery so we will recommend and prescribe some pain medication after the procedure. The medication will also help with the swelling, and you can also apply ice packs on the outside of your mouth.
What to Expect After All-on-4 Treatment
Your jawbone will heal and fuse around the implants in a process called osseointegration. During the first few days, you will only be able to consume juices and smoothies. After a couple of weeks, you can transition to soft and cool food, like pasta. After about a period of three months, when the bone has had sufficient time to fuse to the implants, you can go back to your regular diet.
You may also experience cracked and dry lips as your mouth was stretched during the procedure. You can take care of them by applying a lip balm or Vaseline.
You may also feel some pain in your throat because the muscles in the area will become swollen after the surgery; this feeling may go away in two or three days.
Because of the new implant supported dentures and swelling, you may not be able to fully open your jaw as before. It is important that you do not force it but instead gently rub the area, until it can open naturally.
